What is Speaker Series?
Palliative Care Tasmania’s ‘Compassionate Communities Speaker Series’ is a great mix of industry experts covering specialty topics in end-of-life care including diverse topics such as legal, guardianship, finance, mental health, grief and more.
This is your chance to access specialty information that informs the broader supports available for someone diagnosed with a terminal illness/ who is older and frail and for those that are supporting/ caring for them.
Hannah has been working as a Social Worker for the past decade across a range of settings including NSW Health, Public Guardian of NSW and in the community sector. She is a proud member of the LGBTIQ+ community and is dedicated to improving the health outcomes of all LGBTIQ+ people. Hannah believes that patient-centered palliative care must include an understanding of diversity and intersectionality. Hannah is currently coordinating a National Palliative care project with LGBTIQ+ Health Australia, funded by the Department of Health.
Hannah will be providing an overview of the barriers that LGBTIQ+ people experience when they access palliative care services. She will also provide information on the skills and knowledge required to create safe, respectful, and inclusive spaces for LGBTIQ+ people.
She will share findings from LGBTIQ+ Health Australia’s research and will provide resources that aim to support practitioners to take action towards inclusive palliative care as soon as they leave the session.
Resources will be provided a few weeks prior to the speaker session.
